Monte Grande is a small mountain located in the middle of Sicily, in the southern part of Monti Erei area. It shows a tight, inclined and upright folding in well-bedded Calcare di Base and Terravecchia Formation. Calcare di Base is made by white and grey limestone with levels of grey mudstone. The Terravecchia Formation is composed of marls and silty claystone with interlayered lenses of quartz or conglomerate/breccia of Numidian Flysch. Both units are part of neogenic marine deposits. Monte Grande is part of a huge fold system that runs NE-SW in the middle of Sicily and in the outcrop it’s easy to see the folded bedding and the axial traces.
